Until we meet again...

At long last, we have arrived at the end of this ridiculous school year.

What a ride.

I appreciate you folks so much - you had patience with me and all your teachers as we improvised lessons for the last several weeks. In a way, we were driving blind, and all of you were passengers as we did. As I was trying to continue to give you a meaningful education, the work piled up (for us both), but we got the job done.

And here we are.

So, if you have anything to say, I'd love to hear it. Criticisms of my teaching? Bring it. Suggestions for next year? I'd LOVE to hear them. Thoughts on cyber school in general? Please share. Plans for the summer? Do tell. Real world observations on protests and the breathtaking events of the last couple weeks? Get as real as you want - we are living history, after all.

Obviously, you are not REQUIRED to write anything, but if you decide to, just know that I will read it and email you back with my thoughts. When we are under stay-at-home orders, or quarantine, or lockdown, or in isolation, or whatever you call it, we lose essential interaction with others, and that takes a toll. My favorite part of teaching is the time I spend with you in the classroom, and that just went away. (My least favorite part can be grading, and that probably quadrupled!) So if you want to reach out and connect again, I'm up for it. I'm not sure what the summer holds, and I CERTAINLY don't know what next school year will look like. But we will get through this.

Speaking from the heart, I absolutely have to say this: THANK YOU. Thank you, and take care of yourselves and each other, until we meet again.

wrap it up!

Good morning, everyone!

Your last assignment is the Letter to Your Future Self (Cyber #30), the details are on yesterday's blog and Veracross, and it's due before midnight tonight.

There's not much more to say!

Have a great day!

counting down the days...

Good morning, and welcome to Wednesday!

The only assignment remaining is Cyber #30, the Letter to Your Future Self, which is due for everyone before midnight Thursday night. Feel free to post it earlier if you like.

Cyber #30:  Letter to your future self.
It is not exaggerating to say your freshman year of high school has been unlike any other. In this assignment, I want you to write a letter to your forty- or fifty- or sixty-year-old self. Explain the situation with the coronavirus, and what it has done to you. Describe your feelings, your emotions, your experiences. Talk about what your life has been like for the last several weeks, and what you are expecting this summer to be like, and what you hope next school year will hold. Take this letter in any direction you like.

Write 300 words (use more words if you need ‘em) that you will want to look at to remember this awful and momentous time in your life. I’m giving you until 11:59pm on Thursday, June 4, because I hope you will compose something that will transcend your routine assignment. This is your final writing assignment for this class.

When you’re done, post it to your blog, then print a copy for yourself to look at down the road.

You’re a special class, and not just because of the miserable hand you’ve been dealt. It’s been a pleasure to share time with you guys, and I wish you the very best. As my Mom always used to tell little Bobby before she sent me off to school, “Have fun, and do good work.”

Sincerely,
Mr. Schick

suddenly, it's June!

Busy week ahead! Here is the plan.

All three sections: your essay test needs to be emailed to me before midnight tonight.

All three sections: you will take your short answer portion of the exam during class time tomorrow.
  • Honors 202 tests from 8:00-8:50am on Tue Jun 2.

  • Sup West Civ tests from 8:55-9:45am on Tue Jun 2

  • Honors 201 tests from 1:25-2:15 pm on Tue Jun 2.

  • All three sections: you need to post Cyber Assignment #30 before midnight Thursday, June 4. See my blog from last Friday, or Veracross, for details about this assignment.

Hopefully this is crystal clear: Essay emailed to me today, test taken in class tomorrow, Letter to your Future Self posted to your blog before midnight Thursday. No other assignments will be given.

Good luck in this class, and in all your classes, as we wrap up this crazy school year!
